Waterlily

The yellow waterlily, aka spatterdock or yellow pond lily, occurs in all 50 states except Hawaii and blooms from May – October. The blossoms partially open in the morning and close at night. The plant is attached to the muddy bottom of a water body and provides food and shelter for many fish and underwater insects. I collected this flower while kayaking at a nearby pond.
