On a warm June night, two large, swollen buds on my night blooming cereus plant opened. Starting at 7PM,
they took 2+ hours to completely unfurl and spread their heady fragrance. The blossoms were 3+ inches across.
By the morning, they were spent and wilted. The plant, actually an Epiphyllum, typically blooms for one night a year.
Some years, it doesn’t. I’ve had this plant for more than 25 years.
Because of its dimensionality, the blossom was a challenge to scan. After several attempts, I felt I had truly captured its essence.
