Calling Dr. Freud

Often, with abundant summer rains, a fungus (Hypomyces) attacks a common local mushroom (Amanita rubescens/the blusher) underground and transforms it into something completely different. I collected a clump of these oddities in Easthampton, MA, and they begged to go on my scanner.
